Travel vs Learn the Language
Hey everyone.
I recently returned from a visit to Germany, and I've absolutely fallen in love with it (and travelling) again. I'll spare you the squishy details, but I think I've caught the bug that everybody else here has and I can't wait to go again!
I'm trying for a longer trip this time. While I was away, somebody mentioned the idea of coming to Germany (or anywhere in Europe or the rest of the world) to study the language for six months or a year. I thought this was a neat idea, and I looked into it further with ESL Languages, which seems to be the most popular company for these trips. Seems that six months would cost me roundabout 15k CAD, and a year would be 20-25k CAD. That's a hell of a lot of money, especially given that I'm also looking into just travelling around for six months which seems (from a few Google searches) to be considerably cheaper, around 5-6k CAD. That's much more doable, but I'm not sure how to do that exactly given I spent close to 1k in just under two weeks on the road earlier this month.
I have absolutely no reason to study the language, really; just a fun thing to do, a challenge to keep my brain fresh. I could have a hub to live in and time to fuck around on the weekends.
I'm just interested in hearing anyone else's opinion on either of these plans. I'm sure lots of you have done six months or so abroad, and I want to join the club.
Thanks!
