Has anybody ever gotten a ticket for having a dark tint in a state that they’re driving in? For ex., NM’s law is 20%, but TX’s is 25% and VA’s is 50% in the front side windows & 35% on the back side window. My truck is registered in NM so I’m at 20%, but I live in both states. Am I screwed?
I got a tint because I drive my guinea pigs back and forth and driving in Texas + New Mexico is extraordinarily hot, too hot for them. Because my truck is registered here in NM, we tinted it at 20%.
I go online and learn how high VA’s rules are and I’m freaking out. I love my tint, not only for my pigs but for myself because since I had LASIK I’ve had bad glare that makes me hate driving at night. It’s distracting and gives me a headache, makes my eyes hurt. The tint has really helped.
Like I said I live in both states, living in NM about 25 weeks of the year, and VA in the other 27. I’m only in VA for college, I hate it there and am counting it down until I move back home, trying to graduate early in fact. I don’t work in VA, or NM (my parents provide while I’m in school).
My Mom and I thought since the truck is registered in NM, and in my Mom’s name (it’s really her truck that I’m just borrowing) I’d be okay. They did that when they lived part time in AZ, cause AZ had a higher percentage but they were registered in NM so they were fine. I don’t understand the laws really and I’m scared. Anybody have any experience with this?
