Solo travel down the west coast of America, Florida and New York. Trek America vs Doing it alone?
Hello guys, I'm a solo male traveller, 21. (I hope this is the right place to post this).
This summer I have a camp america placement at a camp in California finishing on 19th August. I plan to travel the west coast for a week after finishing camp before flying over to florida to visit family then flying up to new york for maybe 5 days before flying home. All in all probably looking at the trip lasting around 3 weeks.
When looking at the west coast, I found a trek america package which for £650 includes transport and accommodation (Food an extra $10 a day) for a week long trip going from San Francisco to Yosemite, to Vegas, to Grand Canyon, along route 66 to the Colorado River before finishing in LA. From people's experience either doing a route like this or using trek america or a similar company, is this good value for money? I'm travelling alone so i'd like to have some company which I why i thought i'd go through a company, however would it be far cheaper to do it by myself?
Secondly, where would people recommend staying in New York City? I've looked at both hostels throughout the city, but also at some air bnb options. I liked the idea of privacy that an air bnb would offer, however being a lone traveller a hostel would be far more social!
At the moment this is still very much unplanned. I've only booked my flight out as I start camp at the beginning of June, but haven't booked anything post camp including a flight home. This will be my first time travelling, so if i've made some really rookie mistakes in my plans or asked some really obvious questions I apologise, please go easy on me.
Any suggestions or improvements to my plans would be greatly appreciated.
