First Solo Trip Ever! Trigger Warning: Death
On March 16th, I lost my fiancée suddenly and unexpectedly. We were to be married in July. I’ve decided to go away that weekend as everything reminds me of him. (I’m working on fixing up the house so I can sell it, but takes time)
I live in Michigan, so I’ve decided to to the Eagle Harbor area which is the northernmost point of the state. It’s a nine hour drive. It’s the farthest I’ve ever gone completely alone. I’m nervous, but it’s just something I need to do. I want to travel and I need to learn how to do it alone.
I’m going to be 51 this year and have never been more than three hours from home completely alone. Either I’ve gone with someone or been met by someone at my destination.
My mother will throw a fit, I’m sure. (She’s kind of a JustNo. See the JustNo subreddits for more info. on this) She still sees me as a child who can’t do things for themself.
Anyway, what should I do to prepare for this trip? I already plan on having the car checked before I leave. I’m hiring a pet sitter for my cats and making sure people have my travel plan and phone numbers.
I’m not sure what else to do beforehand. I want this to go well as I plan on traveling to the Czech Republic in a year or two solo.
