Tell me about your favorite places in Costa Rica and Guatemala
Hi all! I’m planning a 1-2 month trip through Belize, Guatemala, and Costa Rica for next November and December, and I’d love some destination recommendations. I’ve been to Costa Rica once before and I stayed in San Jose, Puerto Viejo, and Manzanillo. This time around I plan on returning to that area and adding two or three weeks on the west coast and in the northern/central area of the country. I’ve been looking at Quepos as well as Monteverde and Montezuma. As for Guatemala, I’m currently planning on visiting Flores, Tikal, Antigua, and Guatemala City. I’m comfortable with traveling around by bus, which is what I did last time I was in Costa Rica. I plan on getting from Guatemala to Costa Rica via an absurdly long bus ride that will take me through El Salvador and Nicaragua. Currently not planning on staying in either country, but I’m open to suggestions. I’m very interested in experiencing the biodiversity that this area has to offer, but I’m also hoping to experience the culture and learn about the history of the area. I’m open to just about anything!
Additionally, I’m not currently planning on carrying enough gear for multi-day hikes, but I’d love some day hike recommendations! I’ve read about some of the volcanos near Antigua and they sound amazing. Not sure which would be best for a day hike though.
