LA to New Orleans
Hi Roadtrippers
My family and I are headed to the US in mid-September (from Australia). We've come up with a rough idea for a road trip and would like some feedback (mostly to ensure we're not doing anything stupid). It's my wife, my two daughters (8 and 11), and myself for two weeks. We like the less touristy things in general, although there are some big things we wouldn't ignore, Grand Canyon, Houston Space Center, etc. But we'd really love to get into some suburbs or small towns and mingle, e.g. get to a local high school sporting event.
We arrive in LA on Friday the 14th and fly home late on Sunday the 30th. My wife and I have written-off the 14th with jet lag, so the road trip will start on the 15th
Our road trip skeleton: * Arrive LA, afternoon trip to Venice Beach (1 night) * Phoenix (1 night) * Grand Canyon (2 nights (? wondering if a day trip or overnight stay is all that's needed) * Albuquerque (1 night) * Roswell (1 night) * 1 night in Fort Stockton or Ozona or Odessa... still tossing up, would be nice to spend a night somewhere kinda quiet (quaint?) and perhaps meet some small town locals? * Austin (2 nights) * Houston (2 nights) * New Orleans (2 nights) * Fly back to LA for a couple of days in Disneyland before we fly home.
Thanks for any comments or advice.
