I didn't expect to love driving through Kansas
A few weeks ago I drove from Austin, TX to Des Moines, IA in the first leg of a 2-day roadie back home to Madison, WI.
Of course, a majority of this route was done on I-35, and so I went through Kansas. Rather than take the turnpike for its entirety, I followed 35 for the duration of its route through the state, into Kansas City, for some dynamite ribs.
What I wasn't expecting was how beautiful Kansas was. Perhaps it was the time - my route took me through between about 5pm and 9pm, if I recall correctly, so the sunlight was really good while it was still light out. I think what I found captivating was the rolling Flint Hills, and the ambers and beiges illuminated by the late afternoon sun.
Anyone else find this stretch of Kansas beautiful, or was it just me? Am I crazy?
