I (44F) want to do more so travel - it's easier than trying to coordinate with others. However, I went solo camping early Nov 2016 in the Superstition Wilderness (AZ, USA) and had a mama mountain lion stalking around my campsite all night and had her and her cubs staring at me for about 25 minutes..
...at about 4:45 am, crouching at the edge of my site. I've been told by many that I'm lucky to have seen this, since most don't get to see mountain lions in the wild. I feel lucky to have survived! This whole experience has scared me away from camping solo again. And then I think about her heavy footsteps that I thought were human, and I get even more scared about a person watching me or coming into my campsite at night. I don't think I could even sleep in my car, for fear of someone trying to get inside. Can someone talk some sense into me? I feel like I'm missing out on so much! I don't own a gun, nor do I want to.
