Looking to get away to Europe for a bit of solo travel after college. Any tips/destinations?

I'm graduating this May and I'm really hoping to get away for a week or two or three, whatever I can afford.

Sparing the details, this past year I've done some really emotionally heavy work that I'm planning on continuing (somehow) after college. In the in-between I'd love to take a cathartic trip alone, relax and meet some cool folks.

Any recommendations? I've been looking at cities along the Mediterranean coast of Spain, especially in the south. I'd love the availability of the beach and to see some old Moorish architecture.

I've looked at hostels and I'm using Scott's Cheap Flights to keep the price down, but I'd love any tips on budget strategy y'all have accrued. This will be my first solo trip this far for this long, so any other thoughts you might have would be amazing to hear as well.
