Would meeting international friends of friends work for your solo journey?
Would you ever want to meet up with friends of friends of yours when traveling solo? Or would you say that meeting no one in your network is part of the purpose of travelling solo?
I am making an android app together with a colleague, with the aim to make it possible to see if someone you know has a friend in the area you are visiting. The app will let you see where they are located in the world and connect before or during your visit to their city. Only friends and second degree friends can connect, and each person can keep up to six friends on their list, in order to make sure you can only meet people who you have one good friend in common with. This way no network will be greater than 36 people/places and yourself.
The idea came to me when traveling solo for a month in the US last summer. I met up with an old high school friend in Arizona for some days. His girlfriend worked as a rafting instructor in Colorado, and two more friends of his studied in Boston and New York. I ended up stopping by/visiting them all during the trip, and had a great experience with each one.
