Solo travelers of the world, I need advice. Looking for a seaside city with beaches in the Caribbean, Central or South America.
So I'm from New York and looking to do my fist solo trip to somewhere warm and affordable (the Caribbean, Central American and northern South America came to mind (flights to Rio / Buenos ares are really expensive)). Looking to spend a week in a colorful city that has nice beaches so i can enjoy the beach easily but also explore a city with a lot of culture and fun nightlife.
Doing my own independent research, Cartagena keeps coming up, however, I hear the beaches are mediocre and a little far and the only safe area is within the old city walls, which I'm reading could get boring after a few days. Also looked into Costa Rica but it seems like there is only beach towns and not quite a city that i can explore for a week.
info about me: 28(m); want to keep the flight prices under 800 round trip however my budget is flexible for excursions and partying; looking to stay in hostels for the social experience and find people to go out with.
