I've lived in Austin for the last 6 years but will be headed back to california on the 29th.

I've made the drive 3 or 4 times but have always taken i10 the entirety of the way and was considering taking i40 for a bit of a change of pace. My only concern is that I am rather unfamiliar with the terrain and while my '95 Rodeo currently has a clean bill of health it does putter a bit when trying to take steep hills and such.

Any advice for those who have gone that route would be greatly appreciated!
