Thinking of traveling around Europe for a month next summer, need some advice.
I'm an Irish guy, and I'm thinking of traveling around Europe for a month or so next summer, I'm a relatively inexperienced traveler, and I have a few questions.
Firstly, I'm thinking of doing the trip without an itinerary, I'll probably start off somewhere in western Europe, and then start making my way east, deciding the next city I go to before I leave the previous one. Has anyone run into problems doing this? Such as not being able to find an affordable hostel? Also, would you guys recommend having a flight home booked before the end of the trip? Or am I likely to be able to find a reasonably priced flight home during the trip?
Secondly, I'm a rather inexperienced traveller, the only countries I've visited are the UK, The Netherlands, Spain and Canada, which are all rather safe countries, is there anywhere in Europe I should avoid visiting solo until I have more experience?
Thirdly, there's a lot of options for transport around Europe, I'm leaning towards getting an interrail pass, though, I've heard mixed reviews about them, is it my best option? Or would I be better off using busses, or finding cheap flights?
I'm considering starting this trip some time between mid May and mid June of next year, I figure starting the trip earlier would probably lead to everything being a little less busy, but leaving it longer gives me a little more time to save cash, what would you guys recommend?
Those are all the questions I have, if there's any advice you guys have that are unrelated to these questions I'd also be really appreciative of that!
