Convincing my parents
DISCLAIMER - Sorry for the long post but would appreciate to help, thanks.
I am a 17 year old male from the UK and I have wanted to travel for as long as I can remember (I'm not going to tell my whole life story, don't worry). Anyway, to the point of the post, it has been about the past 2, I've decided that i'm going to go to Australia on a WHV. When I told my parents about this they just said that you need to be rich to do that, and this was about 1 year before I started working. I discovered this subreddit not long after they told me that and have read probably every post about people going to Australia on a WHV and going with just a couple 1000s.
When I started working and earning my own money about 1 year ago, I have saved over £4500 and I have worked out that by the time I finish college in June 2018 I will have about £6400 saved. Take away all the stuff necessary to go to Australia (Visa, Plane tickets, backpack, etc) I will have about £5700 to go to Aus with.
For the past year I have always made little comments to my parents about travelling, for example, if we see something about Australia on the TV, I say "I can't wait to go there when I finish college" and they just huff and reply saying "Carry on dreaming". They are very supportive when I say that I want to be a freelance videographer but when I talked about travelling, they always go on to me about how I should just get a job and pursue a career before I even think about travelling. Its getting close to me finishing college now and I want to sit down with them and tell them i'm going to Aus, but they now think that i'm going to get a proper full time job when I finish because I was just going along with them.
How do I know sit down and tell them that i'm going to Aus and not down the path they want me to go down? I would also like to hear how you convinced your parents.
