How do you do research when deciding what countries/cities to visit? How do you weigh one websites opinion against another? How do you get good and trusted opinions about what it is like to go there and what to do?
Hi y'all!
I've been attempting to do a lot of research on Eastern European countries for a few trips I have coming up. I've been looking through this subreddit, randomly googling cities, and trying to pay attention to things that seem interesting to me (I know that tastes on where to travel is very different).
However, I've noticed that a lot of information about cities is either generic or unhelpful. Lonely Planet has a lot of data, for example, but it's all very skewed in favor of the cities (which makes sense, but is frustrating when attempting to decide if I should visit Riga or Vilnius), and just looking at images or blog posts tends to give the sugarcoated version of travel.
How do you go about doing research and deciding if a city is worth your time, considering your individual interests and budgetary constraints?
