Hosteling Underage
Dear reddit,
I've just booked my first (highly spontaneous) solo-trip (Brussels>Amsterdam), but have found that most hostels have an over-18 age limit. Two of the four hostels seem to accept people of all ages, but I discovered after booking them that the others do not. Now, being reckless (and lacking time- I booked this trip on Sunday to depart Wednesday morning), I figured this wouldn't likely be a problem considering how relaxed Europe is. Certainly, a 17 year old friend went inter-railing alone recently and ran into no problems (but cannot remember the specific age policies of each hostel).
It's a long-shot, because most of you are probably older and started travelling after the age of 18, but how strictly do you reckon these policies are enforced?
