Dominican Republic in two weeks! (What to expect)
Hi all,
I'm part of my company's response team going to be positioned in the Caribbean from 24th Oct to 24th Nov. My company has explained to me that should I accept, I can extend this to three or even six months in the Caribbean. My first month post will either be in the Dominican Republic (90%) or in the British Virgin Islands (10%). I'll find out this week.
I have traveled to 35 countries so far, some of which were friends, others were solo. I have no problem traveling solo, and I'll be spending half my time conducting site surveys of the damages due to the recent hurricanes. During my free time, I'd like to take advantage of being in that region and exploring everything I can. I've never been to the Americas or the Caribbean, so I have no idea what to expect. I've looked at several rough guides, reviews, and blogs of the Dominican Republic and I'm quite excited by what I've seen so far.
I'll have a car and during my free time I'd like to go around the entire country during my one month stay.
I'm interested in: * delicious local food * underground music venues of all genres * beginner scuba and/or [kite] surfing classes * exploring local wildlife
Which cities, events, or adventures do you guys recommend during my one month?
