So, going to be moving with a truck an my car. My father is going to be driving the truck and I want to have a way for us to stay in contact, in case we get separated or one of us gets lost.

Problem is, he doesn't have a smart phone, so apps and what not are not possible. Also, I'm trying to find something inexpensive, as funds are severely limited (that is why I'm moving).

We are going to be passing through some mountainous terrain, so I don't think standard off the shelf walky-talkies will work.

Anyone have an suggestions or know of some good resources (websites, etc.) to look at to get a start?
