I'm trying to plan a trip with a friend to Iceland next May. Right now everything is up in the air as far as plans. The trip is going to be photography based with lots of hiking to scenic locations. I've never done a trip like this before so what's the best way to go about planning this? All I know right now is that the trip will be about two weeks long and we would like to spend the least amount of money as possible because we are both students.

What's the best way to plan travel and places to sleep in Iceland? I heard a friend once rented a land rover defender for use and it sounds pretty great but I'm guessing expensive. Well probably try and camp as much as possible to keep it cheap but how would that work in Iceland? I don't know the rules like if there's public camping spots or do you have to rent a site every night.
