Hello /r/solotravel,

I'm 16 right now and I'm in Sophomore year in high school. I've been planning a gap year at the end of senior year for a few months now and I had about $400 saved up so far to travel. I was going to save up more.

However, I live in Houston Texas, and recently Hurricane Harvey came through and wreaked all kinds of destruction to our house. I'd gladly give away my savings to help rebuild our house, but I'm concerned now about the Gap year I planned and whether I'll even have enough to take a Gap year. For the remainder of the year at least and probably into 2018, I won't be able to save money as anything I get will go into repairing the damage.

So I suppose my question is, how can I get funding for a Gap year? I've heard of organizations that can help with this but I would really like to travel on my own and on my own terms.
