What are the implications of using a Canadian car seat in Europe?

My wife and 9 month old son are going to Iceland and Scotland next month and will be renting cars (2 weeks). We would prefer to bring our car seat to save money renting one from the car agency (it's about $20 a day). We also are uncomfortable having a used one not knowing what's happened to it with other renters. We just have a few questions if we do bring our own:

  • It's a rear facing seat. Is our LATCH system interchangeable with Europe's Isofix?
  • Can we be given a ticket in Europe for having a non-EU seat? The certification is different and I have read that the chest strap is illegal.
  • Will insurance be void it something should happen?

I know you may not be able to answer all of these but overall just wondering if anyone has had experience. Tried searching online and Reddit and haven't found much.
