Advice for solo traveller in Southeast Asia
Was told earlier this week that I'm being sent to work in my company's Hong Kong office at the end of this month, and thought it would be the ideal time to take some time off to explore the region. Have been doing research on the potential places to visit, but a bit lost due to the variety of options.
I'm looking to spend a little more than two weeks travelling in the area, and will be starting off in Hong Kong (around the 11 Sept). The furthest I've gotten with my plans is that I've already committed to visiting some friends in Bangkok (probably from 11-15 Sept), but where to go from there is the big question mark.
As for interests - I'm looking to get my sun/beach/culture fix, but as I'll be travelling solo I'd also enjoy somewhere where the nightlife is active so I can meet people. The main complicating factor from this perspective is that I'm trying to avoid the overly tourist destinations (which scared me away from Koh Samui/Phuket). Have been checking out Phu Quoc, Koh Tao, Kuala Lumpur-Langkawi-Koh Lipe, Railay Beach so far, but can't seem to find something that ticks all the boxes (unless I'm missing something?). Budget is pretty flexible, but I don't want to break the bank - am probably looking at somewhere around GBP 100+/night for a decent hotel.
Any tips/advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
