Travel Itinerary for Vietnam/Cambodia
Hi,
My boyfriend (M21) and I (F22) are planning a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia for approximately 3 weeks (can be up to 4 weeks if necessary) in December. We have a reasonable budget and will most likely be staying 4 star, but hope to keep the trip to approximately a maximum of 3,500 USD/4,500AUD.
A bit of background: we travelled to Vietnam last November for 2 weeks and fell in love with the country. However, 2 weeks was far too rushed and we were pretty exhausted after and left with a strong desire to return again to do more. In this trip we did: - 5 days in Hanoi (in the old quarter) - 2 nights in Halong Bay - 3 nights in Hoi An (in the ancient town) - 4 nights on Phu Quoc Island. We loved Hanoi and Hoi An and wish to return to see the things we didn't get time to see. We don't wish to return to Phu Quoc.
A bit about us: we love history and great food. We enjoy a bit of shopping (i.e in markets), but mostly like wandering around beautiful places and exploring at our own pace. We aren't interested in bars/clubs etc. and we aren't too fussed about lying around on beaches.
Current ideas: we have been planning to visit Cambodia and realised we want to go back to Vietnam so badly we can't possibly not do so when we are so close to it. We are currently considering visiting: - Siem Reap and Phnom Penh (4 nights in each) - Hanoi (4 nights) - Hue (2 nights) - Hoi An (3 nights) - Ho Chi Minh City (4 nights)
Our questions are as follows: - We are unsure of our timing - is this enough time for these cities, or perhaps too much time in some? - Are there other areas of Cambodia we are missing out on that are great to visit? - We found with our last trip that we felt rushed and got sick of all the flying. Are buses or car trips options for us in any of the above trips between cities? - Where else would you recommend staying in Hanoi outside of the Old Quarter? i.e. French Quarter. - Where else would you recommend staying in Hoi An? (we stayed just outside the ancient town last time).
