My girlfriend and I are backpacking in South America and are currently looking at flights back to the UK in November. The cheapest flight we can find goes via Fort Lauderdale in Florida with a 3hr 50 layover there.

Is this doable? I'm aware transferring in the US is a nightmare as you have to basically go through immigration even though you aren't staying in the country. Is 3hrs 50 pushing it?
