Help! San Diego or Zion in January?
Looking for help with planning a route for an upcoming trip in early January. It will be our first big big roadtrip!
We are renting a built out van in Phoenix, AZ for 13 days.
Route 1: Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Page, Grand Staircase & Zion for a few days. Same route back South.
Pros: National Parks/Sightseeing, convenience with parking van.
Cons: Temperature. We are ok with the cold. But the idea of resorting to spending most of our time in a van for heat after a long hike in the cold feels like a bummer. Considering going in the summer instead? Cell service is blotchy.
Route 2: Phoenix, Imperial Sand Dunes/Salvation Mountain area, San Diego (we will spend a few days here), Palm Springs for a day, Joshua Tree for a day and back to Phoenix. (Will maybe sneak a day into Sedona if we have time)
Pros- Warmth, Coastal life (seals/whale watching), Mexican food, activities, more relaxed, cell service.
Cons- It’s trickier finding overnight parking, but not impossible. Less scenic in the grand scheme of things.
Which trip would you do and why?
