Will be driving from Yellowstone back home to Indiana in a few weeks. We're taking the South Dakota route on the way there to hit up Badlands, and I thought Nebraska-Missiouri-Illinois might be a good route to come back through.

I've heard to avoid I-80, what would be a good east-west route through the state with interesting stops? Would like to see some of the Oregon Trail national monuments along the way.
