Best Road Trip/ Adventure Roof top Storage

I'm thinking of doing a bunch of road trips in the coming future and I'm wanting to outfit my vehicle to be able to tackle the long haul drive while carrying all my family's stuff. So, I want to know from you what you think is the best option

Cargo Basket: I would be able to mount an awning, but not the water or gas can to it directly. The water and gas can have to be placed into the basket along with some other gear in storage boxes.

Cargo Box: I would have to mount my awning to the Cross bars, but have no wear to put my water and gas cans. I would just put clothes and maybe the tent and awning room in here rather than inside the car.

Platform Rack: I could mount my awning to the underside of the bars of the platform to give the most use of the top of the bars. I could mount a bigger water can in one corner of the roof then the gas can separately. I can mount a Milwaukee mounting plate to the platform, so I could mount tools that I could reach faster than I would with it under all my gear under the cargo area. Then I could add a bigger spare tire and not worry if I have enough room under there or not🤔. But, do I want to keep tools up there most of them time tho? Idk about that yet🤔. Probably not even if I could lock them. It'll be putting gold ingots right on the hood of my car every time I leave and hope to gosh they're still there😂. As for cargo like my clothes, I may just be able to fit them inside and put my camping gear and other travel gear up in a storage box that's mounted to the platform and locked from people with sticky fingers.

I feel like, with the platform I would have so much more space and variations to how I can put stuff up there, but for the price of one is quite a bit especially with the edition of the gear I have to buy for it. Is a lot.

The cargo box would be great for putting my clothes and sleeping gear inside rather than keeping it inside. But, would it be a hassle taking down my clothes and maybe the air mattress when getting to a hotel?🤔 (I'm usually sleeping on a sleeper couch or a spare bed in the hotel since we have an odd number family😂)

The cargo basket would probably be the best bet for the cost, but the down side is how much fuel economy I would lose with it that Idk. I talk with other people and they say just save up for the platform, but idk. That's why I'm coming here😂.
