Help me plan! San Diego-Vermont with 2 preteens & a puppy. (Also-wish me luck!)
Starting to plan our summer adventure this year and considering doing a big road trip from San Diego to Vermont leaving June 24th, stay in VT for most of July, down to NYC July 25th and heading back to San Diego around July 30th.
Kids are 13 & turning 11 in July, puppy will be almost 8 months when we leave. The farthest the kids have driven in a day is SF-SD/approximately 10 hours.
I used to do the SF-Vermont road trip Cannonball Run style in my 20s, but that doesn’t work for this trip. Thinking we’d all be more comfortable with a max of 10-12 hours/day in the car and even that being split up into chunks. Since I used to leave from SF it was I80 pretty much all the way until Cleveland and then I90 across NY. But Maps currently suggests 8-40-44-70-90…idk. If I go north, I could divert & do a side trip through Yellowstone & the whole route might be a little cooler?
Anyway, what route would you go? And I’m open to different routes there and back. Also would love suggestions of places to check out while breaking up the drive.
