32 year old female from NYC metro area road tripping alone across the American Southwest! Need advice:)
Hi! So I stepped a bit out of my comfort zone and booked a trip to Arizona by myself. Plan is to fly to Tucson stay there for a couple days then I’m going to drive up to Phoenix to visit my cousin then I’m solo again driving over to Taos New Mexico where I will also stay for a couple days. Now I’ve always had a great connection to the desert I’m a born and raised both eastern girl but I’ve always been drawn to the Southwest since an early age. I feel very free and connected when I am in the west, something about all that space to breathe and long sprawling empty highway speaks to me. I had a very hard couple of years I lost my father and my grandmother back to back then split with my fiancé of 9 years and am a year sober after a battle with alcoholism. I finally feel like I’m Born again with nothing holding me back and Im thinking of eventually making the move out there, hence the trip.
Anyways I’ve heard some horror stories about traveling the desert at night, and I realize that the dangers of the west are different then the dangers I might face in the north east. No cell service, long stretches of empty open roads in the hot desert. I heard it’s wise to always carry a case of water in case you break down. Also I’m thinking of stopping along Route 66 at a motel along my route to Taos but I don’t want my wide eyed love affair to get in the way of reality! So anyone who knows the area have any suggestions i would appreciate any advice!
