Would we be insane to do a 3100km Europe road trip in 11 days in fall 2022?
I'll try to keep it concise. We're from the US. Hubby and I and another couple have booked a cruise that's round trip out of Rome in late September 2022. This is a "trip of a lifetime" for us (25th anniversary) so we plan to fly in and out of Milan (which has a train to and from Rome) and then at the conclusion of the cruise, rent a car and take a road trip for 11-12 days round trip from Milan.
The plan (based on some bucket list items as well as family in Europe) is:
2 nights in Zermatt, Switzerland area, then a 10.5 hr drive (longest drive of the trip) up to Halle, Germany area. Stay 2 nights there. Then 3 hrs to Prague. Stay 2 nights there. Then 6 hours to the area around Auschwitz in Poland. Spend one night there. Then 6 hours to Salzburg, Austria for 2 nights there. Then back to Milan for one night before flying home.
Is that crazy aggressive? We are fine with driving in order to see all our must see items but we are obviously unfamiliar with European roads as well as toll costs. Is there anything we're not thinking about or any input from people familiar with that region?
