Road trip planning help!!!!
Hi! I'm planning my first solo road trip across the US. I have a few places I'm stopping to see friends where I have a free place to stay. The rest of the stops are up in the air. I am unemployed so I am looking to do the trip as cheap as possible, but I'm not afraid to spend a little $$ when needed for an awesome experience. That also means I have a ton of flexibility on how long I can make the trip.
I'm looking for some advice, trails to hike, suggested stops, must see sites and lots of good vibes. I am a 27 year old female so I will be super cautious where I will be spending the night. I plan to mostly camp when I'm not staying with friends unless the weather doesn't permit. I have previously done a 4 day camping trip with another female in CO, so I am comfortable with dispersed camping and being in the middle of a forest.
Below is my tentative schedule. I could really use some advice on my route and must see National Parks.
Day 1 - NC > Nashville, TN - Free place to stay and I've been many times so I won't spend much time here
Day 2 - Nashville, TN > Hot Springs, AR - Camp in Ouachita National Forest, see Hot Springs NP
Day 3 - Hot Springs, AR > Dallas, TX - I have a friend to say with for a few days
Day 4 & 5 - Stay in Dallas
Day 6 - Dallas > ?????
I am looking to head up to the Salt Lake area then possibly Wyoming and Montana then ending up in Fort Collins, CO where I have friends I can stay with. From there I will head back east.
Thoughts on route to see theses things... Arches NP, Grand Sand Dunes NP, Canyonlands NP, Dead Horse Point State Park, Bonneville Salt Flats, Yellowstone NP, Going to the sun road, Grand Teton NP
I am planning to leave the first week of April and driving a front wheel drive Rav4. Another concern is the openest of the parks and the amount of snow in Utah, Wyoming, Montana.
Thanks for any and all help!
