Husband and I are driving from nyc to Burbank LA California. We have our physical map, we have are cats (would love some tips on traveling with cats, if you have them! Training them this week with mini car rides) we have the proper overhead storage for our car and traveling as light as we can. No intention on camping.

And we are planning to go straight down the middle (1-70) as we do not have any true sight seeing plans other than driving through Colorado and experiencing The Grand Canyon.

I imagine we will stay in Ohio(?) for the first night as we plan for 8-10 hour driving cycles. And stay the night in Arizona to see the canyon before we head to California the next morning.

Everything in between Im at a lost! Any recs would be helpful please. From route suggestions to food spots, sight seeing, to hotels. Ofcourse any insight would be appreciated. :)

Edit edit: We have some experience with long drives. Naples Italy to southern Italy Puglia. A lot of towering mountains a and some roads were narrow and windy! About a 8-9 hr drive
