10-12 days. PCW or Mountain States?

So I live near Los Angeles and I have some time before I start a new Job. So essentially from April1st-April 12th I am planning on doing a camping road trip somewhere.

I absolutely love the mountains and forests. The beaches do not interest me AT ALL. I have been all over the country but I haven't explored the PCW states (Oregon/Washington) or some of the Upper mountain states (Idaho/Wyoming/Montana). I figure I can explore one of these regions or perhaps both. The only thing I am concerned about is the weather. I cant change the dates obviously, so I know some areas will be cold where it might not allow me to hike in too much or camp. I know I can camp down to about 20-25 degrees or so.

So where should i go? I love National Parks, I know Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Mt Rainier, are options. I do NOT like crowded cities. So i have no interest in going to Portland, Seattle, etc. I want to check out Boise because it could be a place I would want to live one day. So essentially should I head West to explore Oregon area or East/North to Idaho and Montana? Everyone talks about the greenery of the PCW and that seems amazing, but I also want to experience the vastness, openness, and mountain regions of the mountain states. Would weather limit one of these options? I can always do one and then do the other trip somewhere down the line in my life. I might be happy just exploring via car some area. I love random scenic byways and drives, and secluded camping spots. And if you know of an amazing camping location or even amazing food restaurant in one of these areas that is worth going out of the way for, let me know!

I can drive 10-12 hours in a day if I have to so I can get from LA to essentially the Oregon Border or Boise. So figure that I am essentially starting from one of those places. I am fine with exploring a place for a day and then driving 7 hours to a new city if need be.
