Safe to embark on cross-country roadtrip around Inauguration Day?
I know this is kind of a dumb question because no one knows exactly how it's going to play out, but looking for a little input.
I have a cross-country trip planned where I am leaving on the night of Wednesday, January 20 (Inauguration Day). Of course, most of the time, I'll be driving through the middle of nowhere (southwest and midwest US), but naturally the trip takes me through maybe 5-6 major cities throughout the weekend, 2 of which I was planning to stop at and get a hotel for the night.
Looking at the news recently, I'm nervous about what I could potentially encounter, especially in cities I am unfamiliar with, or protesters blocking interstates near these cities. I don't want to drive into a situation I'm unprepared for.
Do y'all think it's safe to travel on these days? If I have to, I can delay the trip and leave on the following Monday instead, but it's a bit of a challenge so I'd rather not unless there is a real threat.
