Planning help needed. ID, MT, WY, CO, UT
National Parks are already on the list of "must see" places.
We are a 40ish couple from New England looking to explore some western states... eventually. Right now we are looking at Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. Odds are we will plan our trip for late summer - early autumn, we are thinking it'll last about a month. I am looking for planning input.
Things we may be interested hearing about in include:
Local history - what can I learn about before our adventure and places to see in person
Interesting cemeteries- I enjoy learning about an area from looking at older/unique markers.
Scenic routes - that wont destroy our vehicle or get us stuck - likely not high clearance or 4wd
Hiking - nothing technical, dayhikes/10 miles (less with a lot of elevation). We like summits, waterfalls and natural beauty
Smaller campgrounds - with showers is a huge plus!
Road food - diner type, breakfast all day, mom & pop places - no chain or fast food
Anything we should know ahead of time - hazards/risks, weather (in Aug/Sept), places to avoid, laws or cultural norms we should be aware of...
