Route Recommendations? | North TX to Portland in February, with two dogs.

My husband and I are moving from the Dallas area to the Portland area (date tbd, but likely somewhere in the last week or two of Feb).
We are sending our stuff in a container, so we'll drive ourselves (and our two small dogs) in our Elantra. Because of the dogs and other logistical stuff, we aren't planning on a scenic route, but the most efficient. Probably something like 10-ish hours a day of actual drive, two overnight stops, and smaller stops at 2.5-hour intervals. Of course, we are willing to lengthen the trip if needed for safety reasons, but can't really adventure much with our two dogs in tow.
We have seen that it's a roughly 30ish hour drive, and in broad terms, Google Maps shows two possible routes: Dallas-Albuquerque-Salt Lake City-Portland, or Dallas-Denver-Salt Lake City-Portland.
We happen to have friends that we could stay at/visit in Colorado Springs and in Salt Lake City, so that route seems to make the most sense, but we do worry about driving conditions in February going through Denver. We are good drivers, but completely inexperienced with snow/ice conditions. Of course, we wouldn't drive if there was an actual storm or anything, but we ARE wary of driving through places where it snows when it's still considered drivable. Stopping by our friends would be ideal, but it's not a must if there's another route that's more advisable.
Any route recommendations or other advice?
