Planning to drive from Seattle to San Francisco in December
Hello,
I'm planning a drive from Seattle to San Francisco in the last week of December, over two days, with a night layover in Medford, OR or Ashland OR. Couple of questions:
- Do I need to carry snow chains (I have an AWD) just to be safe? I'll be on I-5, I-505, I-80 throughout but wondering how snow-ridden this route can get (especially around Mt.Shasta) in winter.
- I want to be on the lookout for snowstorms and I'm using tripcheck.com, but are there other essential websites that'll help me with my planning?
- Is a detour to pacific coast drive an option if the snow storm worsens my chances of making it down in a timely manner?
If there are websites, subreddits or other essential resources that will help me with the planning of this winter trip from Seattle to San Francisco, please point out.
Thanks a bunch for the help!
