Input on CO -> WY -> MT -> ND -> MN road trip

Hey all,

Taking a road trip from Boulder, CO to Minneapolis, MN. I have the time to take a leisurely & scenic drive. I'd like to check out monuments, scenic views, and historical sights. I'm open to very short hikes for views or points of interest as it's going to be cold outside.

Below you have a list of my itinerary for each state, and I have also linked maps of my route.

Here's my cursory plan--

Itinerary

Wyoming: Trying to stay on the east side or central WY. Last fall I went through the Black Hills in SD to Devil's Tower, to Buffalo, to Thermopolis, to the Grand Tetons & Yellowstone. Also drove Cloud Peak Scenic Byway & Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway. Looking for new and interesting things to do on my drive north through the state.

  1. Abraham Lincoln Memorial Monument
  2. Territorial Prison Historical Site
  3. Oregon Trail Scenic Byway (Henry, NE to Guernsey, WY).
  4. Fort Laramie along the Oregon Trail Scenic Byway
  5. Thunder Basin National Grassland (Bill, WY to Wright, WY)

Montana:

  1. Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument
  2. Pictograph State Park
  3. Pompey Pillar National Monument
  4. Makoshika State Park

North Dakota:

  1. Teddy Roosevelt National Park (North Unit)
  2. Teddy Roosevelt National Park (South Unit)
  3. "Enchanted Highway" (Dickinson, to Regent, to Gladstone)
  4. "Old Red Ten" Scenic Byway (Gladstone to Mandan). Probably stop at Salem Sue in New Salem, Sims is apparently a ghost town, Fort Sauerkraut, possibly Assumption Abbey if they are taking visitors.
  5. North Dakota State Heritage and History Museum
  6. "Chan Sansan" Scenic Byway (Jamestown to Lamoure)
  7. Buttzville, ND (I just want a selfie by the town sign)
  8. Sheyenne National Grassland

Minnesota:

  1. County roads to my destination, stopping to visit some family on the way.

Questions:

  1. I was thinking about hitting Fort Laramie, drive through Thunder Basin National Grassland and taking the Black Hills Scenic Byway. Are Fort Laramie & the Thunder Basin National Grassland worth adding miles? If I cut these out I can cut 3 hours of driving and 180 miles.
  2. Are the museums in Dickinson, SD cool?
  3. Did I miss any significant scenery, hot springs, cool places that you've seen and would recommend on my route? Open to any suggestions that would be slight detours or must-sees along the route that I haven't considered.

Thanks for reading!
