New England Road Trip Ideas
Hello!
We are contemplating a road trip that will take us from Indiana, PA to Acadia and back down through New Hampshire and Vermont via the more scenic route. We are aware of the travel restrictions in place by the three states and can abide by these rules, no problem. Planning to get a COVID test before we leave. We intend to do takeout throughout the trip. The only other stops we'd likely make that require interactions would be to grab some Vermont Maple Syrup, maybe some wine/beer, etc. We aren't really open to visiting museums. Trying to limit our exposure wherever possible! So keep that in mind with any suggestions you guys have.
Friday: Leave at 10 AM or so, drive through to Portland stopping at Danbury pepe (10 hours driving); arrive around 11 PM.
Saturday: Spend morning at Cape Elizabeth, grab lunch at Bite into Maine Lobster Truck at 11 and leave, taking Route 1 up along the coast, stopping along way (open to suggestions here!). Arrive around 8, 9 PM at campground.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday- Acadia; we're sure we can figure good ideas for Acadia on our own, but certainly open to a few suggestions. We are moderately in shape and capable of most of the hikes Acadia has, I'd say. Depending on what we get done will drive when we leave Wednesday.
Wednesday evening- drive around 4 hours and stay in Conway
Thursday- Kancamagus byway to Lincoln, making stops along way for hikes, overlook, etc. Enjoy towns of Conway and Lincoln
Friday- Welch and Dickey trail, Jefferson NH for Muddy Paws Dog Kennel and possibly MT Washington Auto Road, drive to Stowe, VT and stay nearby
Saturday- Do Longs Trail to Mt. Mansfield peak (take Toll Road), then do biking at Burlington Bike Path, enjoy evening in town and leave and get a start on drive
Sunday- drive 7-8 hours, making stops along route 7 along way and arrive home. Some potential stops I've found:
Middlebury has some good brews and wine, Bennington VT seems like a cute town, Mount Greylock Veterans War Memorial Tower, etc. Is the drive itself very scenic?
-I am open to any suggestions on this trip. We do need to go to Maine first in order to comply with the travel requirements that are in place.
-It may be possible to condense Thursday/Friday into one day if we opt out of a few things. This could free up time to stretch out our travels home.
-We'll be tent camping all nights of the trip (maybe one day in the middle we'll stay in a private Airbnb just to get a proper night's sleep.
Thanks for any help!
