Is it OK to put ~9,000km on a RENTAL car for a roadtrip Toronto to Vancouver and back?
My girlfriend, pup and I are planning to do a cross-Canada road trip for the holidays this year, and we're trying to figure out the best vehicle for the job. I lease a 2018 VW Golf that would be a bit cramped for the ride, and I also don't want to put all of those kms on it before the end of the lease. So, we decided we'd check out rentals.
Rentals at Enterprise and Hertz both advertise "unlimited KMs", which - apparently - truly means unlimited. I've read through the contract and fine print, and on their websites, and can't seem to find anything that might snag us for taking the rental on a SUPER long trip like this.
However, I can't imagine any rental company would be especially happy if a car was returned with an extra ~9,000km on it, even if it's after a 3+ week rental period. I've searched around a bunch to find an example of someone doing a similar trip in a rental car, but most of the questions online are for much smaller trips (2-4,000km), or one-way trips with rentals (Toronto to Vancouver only, then fly back, and trips like this), which would be half the distance and not the same situation at all.
TL;DR: Taking a road trip from Toronto to Vancouver and back (~9,000km). Even when the rental agreement states "unlimited kms", is this advisable? Is there any secret fair usage clause that I'm not aware of? Are there long-distance rental companies?
