Cross Country Road Trip
My friend and are thinking about doing a cross country road trip from New York to San Francisco after we graduate (June 2021, I know it's far away, but want to start figuring stuff out now). We will both be 21, and we're wondering if it would be better to rent a car or buy one. We were thinking about buying a car for about $20,000 and getting something nicer like a used A6 (or something similar) if we could sell it once we got to SF without losing too much on it (maybe a little more than what it would cost rent a car). That way we could get something potentially nicer than a rental car. We could probably also be talked into an SUV, but we would want something that would be fun to drive. Would it be worth the hassle of getting it registered, insured, and selling it once we got to SF? We were planning on selling to CarMax once we got there and hopping on a plane home. Or would a rental be easier?
