Planning a road trip I call "The Big One"
Hi all! So I've spent the last 2 years getting a 1973 Volkswagen bus converted into a camper for a trip I've simply dubbed "the big one"
The plan is to start from San Antonio Tx. Drive up to shamrock Tx then hop on route 66 all the way to California.
Instead of completing route 66 I plan to turn of on California highway 365 and head upwards visiting death valley NP Sequoia NP, Inyo NF, Yosemite NP with a stop at lake Tahoe. From there we plan to go through plumas and Lassen NF to Redding. Then hwy 299 to route 101 (to see the redwoods).
Then the plan is to ride 101down to the PCH and follow the PCH down to LA. Then return home.
Aside from the expected perils of driving an old car that kind of distance what else is there to know about this kind of Trip? Are the parks good places to camp, and how safe are these areas?
And if Anybody has any suggestions on things to do or see while on this trip aside from the parks I'm happy to hear them, the USS Iowa is the only thing Ive got on the books for sure so far.
Big Cities are deliberately being avoided until the PCH part of the trip.
