Ideas for Stops for relaxed road trip from Yosemite to Yellowstone and back?
Hi Road Trippers--
I'm looking for ideas of where to stop along the way for an outdoorsy/camping/hiking/sight seeing road trip. Here's the details and I hope you all have some good ideas to help! :)
1) We're starting in California and live near Yosemite NP. We've been to Yosemite many a time so we might go again but might also just skip Yosemite and head out on the road. Final destination is Yellowstone, where we've never been! I'm so excited.
Oh and my boyfriend and I are both teachers finally on summer break (yay!) so we have lots of time, this shouldn't be a concern.
2) Covid-19 threat is still high so we are looking to disperse camp or camp in open campgrounds along the way if possible, to avoid crowds. Occasional hotel if necessary is okay (so don't discard a place we should stop even if there's no camping around!). We love being outside and a place having no facilities isn't an issue, so long as it's legal to disperse camp there. We also like hiking and fishing a lot.
3) We teach history so we love going to places of cultural/historical value. The more obscure the better and more interesting, in my opinion!
Any ideas of routes or stops we should make along the way? Things we should see or do along the way? Thanks for any advice!
