Get my car repaired before trip, or get a rental?
Hello everyone! I’m trying to plan a 2 week road trip from Florida to California with two other people. My car is the best of the three of us, and even it still needs some work. I have a used (still making payments) Volkswagen CC with an oil burning issue and need to fill it with oil every 1000-1500 miles. I will either need to get that fixed (I haven’t because the fix is very expensive) or bring with me a few containers of motor oil and then get an oil change before I leave. I also would want to get all fluids checked, brakes looked at and tires rotated before my trip. I don’t really drive the car now because I’m working and doing school from home due to COVID-19, so that’s why I haven’t gotten these mechanical issues fixed already.
I can get those repairs done... or I can rent a car. The problem is, I’m 24, so I’ll have to pay an additional daily fee (depending on where I rent from).
This is my first cross country road trip, (I’ve made small ones before) so I’d really like to see what seasoned road trippers think! Would I get better value from fixing my car and taking it, or getting a rental?
