FL to WI road trip! What cool stops are there?
Hello folks. I'll be driving from FL to WI in early/mid-July (backstory: father in law has early/mid-stage Parkinsons and my wife wants to move him up near us. I'm flying down only to drive his car back until we figure out what to do with it). This link is the proposed route from Google Maps. It's about a twenty-hour trip, so I plan to break it into 2-3 days if there are places to visit along the way. I can make it take a day or two longer if enough stops are available or something great is a bit off the designated route.
I'm hoping some of you more experienced travelers/road-trippers know of exciting parts of the country or attractions I should stop and see along the way. Bonus points if you can point out any excellent campgrounds as I intend to do that rather than spending money on hotels. Even more bonus points if there are any distilleries/breweries or nature-based places (a National/State Park, for example) along the route. I know that the middle of a pandemic isn't the best time for a stop-and-smell-the-roses road trip, but I don't have much choice in timing.
My wife said not to travel through downtown ATL if at all possible, due to traffic. If you agree with that or have other don't-go-that-way suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
