2 Week Honeymoon Trip to WY/MT -- Thoughts?
My fiancé and I are planning a 15-16 day road trip this August to check out some national parks. We plan on car camping and taking safety precautions to limit COVID risk. We enjoy hiking, wildlife, kayaking, and breweries (not sure if we'll get to enjoy that last one lol. We're not totally comfortable in restaurants yet). We aren't big fans of crowds but can stomach it for a little while (i.e., we plan to check out Old Faithful and deal with it).
We're looking for any thoughts/advice on our plan (totally a rough draft right now).
Day 1: Detroit, MI --> Rochester, MN (camp overnight or Airbnb)
Day 2: Rochester, MN --> Badlands NP (hopefully camping there. Any idea how quickly the campsites fill up, or recommendations close by?)
Day 3: Explore Badlands and Custer State Park. (camping reservation at Custer SP)
Day 4: Custer SP --> Grand Teton (hoping to get a campsite at Gros Ventre. How early do we need to get there to get a campsite?)
Days 5-7: GTNP
Day 8: Head to Yellowstone NP (camping reservation at Madison Campground)
Days 9-10: Yellowstone NP (any suggestions for cool out of the way hikes?)
Day 11: Drive to Glacier NP (staying at an off site campground or cabin)
Days 12-14: Glacier NP
Day 15: Glacier --> Teddy Roosevelt NP (hope to camp there, how quickly do campgrounds fill up?)
Day 16: TRNP --> Minneapolis OR straight home to Detroit.
Are we spending too much time anywhere? Any suggestions for cool hikes? We are both in above average fitness but probably not looking for any extreme hikes. And I've got to admit, the bears (especially in Glacier) make me a little nervous.
Any recommendations are welcome!
