Help with Vancouver-to-Texas roadtrip in August
Hi everyone -
My husband and I need to relocate for work from Vancouver, BC to Texas at the start of August 2020. We'll be trying to get down there quickly with minimal contact outside of the absolutely necessary, and reduce our number of hotel nights to a minimum. Our tentative plan is to bring a cooler and other food prep items for quick breakfasts/lunches/snacks on the go, stop for takeout at restaurants as needed but otherwise try to avoid most interactions other than getting gas and the like. We'll have masks, gloves, sanitiser, Lysol wipes, etc.
That said, this is our first time doing a long road trip together, it's the start of a new stage in our lives, and we’ll be headed through some stunning areas of the country that might be somewhat view-able from the car as we drive through. Obviously not the same as being able to stop and stay and explore these places, but with everything going on (and not wanting to risk anyone's health) we're trying to look at the glass as half-full.
Our tentative road trip plan is below. Would appreciate any thoughts you might have on what is worth it, what's not, if there are things we should avoid or are not worth the hassle etc!
Day 1: Vancouver to Lake Louise (overnight in friend’s empty cabin)
Day 2: Lake Louise to Glacier NP (stay in West Glacier?)
Day 3: Drive Going-To-The-Sun Road, through Saint Mary and then down to Gardiner, MT (Stay in Gardiner?)
Day 4: Gardiner through Yellowstone (short stops at Grand Prismatic, Old Faithful, etc), through Grand Teton NP on Teton Park Road (stop to eat/grab photos/walk at Jenny Lake, Schwabacher's Landing) to Jackson, WY and try to find somewhere where we can eat bison and/or drink huckleberry booze. (Stay in Jackson)
Day 5: Drive Jackson, WY to Denver, CO (stay at empty family vacation house)
Day 6: Drive Denver, CO to Amarillo, TX (maybe stop at the Cadillac Ranch, drive Route 66 a bit, stay in Amarillo)
Day 7: Drive Amarillo, TX to Austin, TX
Day 8: ...probably sleep all day?
