Florida to Wyoming, making plans
About 9 months ago I booked a cabin in Wyoming for a month. I grew up there and have been dying to get my kids and the rest of my family out there all together. I'm excited to get there but have to road trip from Florida. Normally this would be no biggie, but with everything going on, it's not that easy. If I could cancel I probably would. But I can't so here we go!
I will be the lone driver with 4 kids (3 teenagers and a 6 year old) and a dog. We plan on camping along the way. We'll be doing short days. I can take anywhere from 10-20 days to get there. Super flexible. We'll be driving a big 15 passenger Ford Transit van so we'll have tons of room for gear and enough room so no one gets stir crazy.
I'd like to see some things along the way. I haven't seen much of Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. I thought it might be worth spending some time there.
I'm looking for suggestions of places to visit. We've seen about everything west of the Mississippi River, so I'd like spend some time on the eastern side. Obviously I want to stay away from people and be respectful, so we're looking for places more off the beaten path.
Also, any suggestions on cooking/camping along the way would be great. My last few cross country road trips have been with a camper trailer, which was wonderful. I havent done a tent camping road trip since before I had kids. I like keeping things routine. I generally give kids a task that they are responsible for at every stop. Trying to think of easy, healthy meals. That's my biggest concern at this point. Looks like come June 1 we'll have more options for camping and there's always KOA.
