I'm a lucky SOB
So yesterday I had to drive from Virginia back to Canada so I took Hwy 79. I was driving my SUV with a utility trailer in tow. The trip was supposed to be 10:30 hours already.
As I'm driving pass Jackson Center, PA, I peak down at my fuel gauge and noticed that I was down to an eight tank. I tought to myself, I better stop at the next gas station. Little did I know is that the next gas station was 25 miles on the other side of the mountain, in Geneva.
So I'm driving up the mountain with my fully-loaded trailer and I see the gauge going down faster than ever. I'm almost up the hill and the light as been on for a while already.
Suddenly, the car start to stutter and finally turn-off about 200' from the top of the mountain. I was driving at 70mph at this point so I just pushed the car on neutral and kept cruising. On my GPS, Geneva was still 3.5 miles away.
I managed to make it to the top of the hill at about 10 miles/hour and it was a slow decent from there. I slowly gained speed, until I made it to the Geneva exit where I only had to walk 500' to the gas station.
Boy am I happy I didn't have to walk the 3.5 miles or get a couple hundred bucks tow fee and/or fine.
