How is driving US-40 in Colorado?
I will be driving across Colorado in a few weeks, and will be heading from Estes Park, to Park City. I was thinking about making it a two day trip. Stopping somewhere in the middle.
With that being said, the two routes are through Wyoming on I-80, or straight west from Estes Park on US-40.
I will be driving a Jeep Wrangler with a 6x12 U-Haul Trailer. My preferred route (solely due to the scenery) is US-40. I have driven I-80 before and meh it's kind of boring. I have never driven US-40.
My questions are:
1) How safe is this route? I love driving and consider myself a great driver, however, I have never driven with a trailer, and much less down a mountain & one-lane road
2) How is traffic? Are there a lot of semi's that may be going super slow up the mtn passes? I'm not sure if the Jeep has the umffff needed to quickly pass a trailer on a one lane curvy road.
Thanks!
